ls2_Lunatic-500x500The main function of a helmet is to provide protection for the head, and choosing the right one might be quite a difficult task. There are a number of factors to consider before buying one. The first and the most important thing is to check for ECE/DOT certification. This is to make sure that a particular standard of safety is maintained by your lid. Better the standard, better the protection. There are quite a few types of helmets available like full face, off-road, modular and open face but full-face helmets are recommended as they provide better overall protection than the other, and they are also more stable at high speeds. They are come in various colors depending on ones taste.

We have quite a lot of options when it comes to helmets in India. One of the companies that makes good helmets is LS2 and they don’t burn a big hole in your pockets either! The FF351 is one such product from LS2. It offers good protection, quality, comfort and at an affordable price tag of around 3k (depends upon the region you live in).

Paint, graphics and overall quality:

The helmet looks pretty good in the matt black finish. It is applied perfectly without any flaw. The design is pretty simple and conservative.

The padding is generous and it can removed and put back on with ease. The inner padding is washable as well. The visor can be flipped up and down easily and doesn’t require a lot a force.  It is quite hard to change the visors though, as it requires a lot of force and effort. The helmet might also feel a tad heavy for some, making it uncomfortable on long rides. Other than that the over all build quality pretty good for its price tag.

I’ve got a decent sized head and L fits me perfectly. The shape of the helmet is slightly round and it is pretty comfortable to wear for long rides as well. The padding sits perfectly and the helmet is quite stable even at high speeds. The chinstraps are nice, wide and the simple mechanism makes it easier to put it on and off.

Overall, LS2 Lunatic fits pretty well and it will also fit majority of head shapes out there.

Visibility:

Ls2 Lunatic offers good front visibility. It also offers a nice side-to-side view as well. The LS2 doesn’t not have an internal sun visor, but one can wear sunglasses inside the helmet without any problems. The main issue is that it fogs quickly during winters and might be a major problem for people living in the colder regions. Opening the visor about half an inch helps keep the fog away.

IMG-20140807-WA0016Ventilation, Air-flow:

The LS2 FF351 has a pretty basic ventilation system, with vents on the chin and forehead. The vents can be closed when one does not need them. They offer good ventilation at higher speeds, but are not so good in traffic, just like any other helmet in this price range. The ventilation system works like a charm and keeps you dry even under really hot conditions, when you are up to speed.

LS2 FF351 Lunatic Helmet Review – Verdict:

The Ls2 FF351 Lunatic is and absolute value for money product and is worth ever penny spent on it. You can buy it with your eyes closed, without any regrets. It is the best among the lot for its quality and comfort! You can also go for the other graphic schemes available in the same design, which will help you match with your bike, gear, or your liking. Ride safe and cheers!

Black tint will always be a problem at night. You can easily find a clear replacement though.

Can you make a list of top 10 or so helmets in India to buy? It’ll be very useful for any kind of rider out there.

Will try Harsh. The problem with such a list is that it’ll take a long time to compile one, IF you are doing a real review and living with each helmet for 5000 od kms 🙂

Not available in shops? It is a fairly easy product to find.
